- A 6-year-old boy shot himself in the leg on June 5.
- The caregiver, Nicole Felippe, was arrested for child neglect.
- Police found marijuana and drug paraphernalia at the residence.

On the evening of June 5, a 6-year-old boy in Winter Haven was admitted to the hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound to his leg. The boy's caregiver, Nicole Felippe, 39, was the only adult present during the incident. She reported hearing a pop while in the shower and discovering the child bleeding.
The boy later told deputies he found the gun and accidentally shot himself in the right thigh, causing a tibia fracture. Neither Felippe nor the boy's father, who had left the child in her care, initially contacted law enforcement. A search warrant executed at the residence uncovered marijuana and related drug paraphernalia in Felippe's bedroom.
Felippe was arrested on multiple charges, including child neglect resulting in great bodily harm, possession of cannabis, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The incident occurred at a home on Bishop James Cochran Way in northern Winter Haven.
