On November 25, 2021, Butcher was a passenger in a vehicle that pursued another car down Market Street in Wilmington. He fired a firearm at the family's vehicle, causing damage and injuring a backseat passenger. The vehicle was driven by a pregnant woman and also contained children.
While Butcher was tried for both the shooting and a separate murder case, a jury could not reach a verdict on the first-degree murder charge. However, he was convicted on charges stemming from the Thanksgiving Day incident. Another individual, Ahmad Tate, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in connection with the separate murder and received a 5-7 year sentence. Charges against Ahdon Tate for the Thanksgiving Day shooting remain pending.
