A federal agent discharged a firearm Wednesday morning in Willowbrook, California, as part of an operation targeting a specific individual. The U.S. Border Patrol and Department of Homeland Security were involved in the incident that occurred near 126th Street and Mona Boulevard.
The operation's objective was to apprehend William Eduardo Moran Carballo, identified as a violent criminal illegal alien from El Salvador. Carballo has a history of involvement in human smuggling and previous arrests for domestic violence. An immigration judge had issued a final order for his removal in 2019.
During the arrest attempt, Carballo reportedly used his vehicle to ram law enforcement officers. Fearing for their safety, an agent fired defensive shots. Carballo was not struck by the gunfire and attempted to flee on foot but was subsequently apprehended. Although Carballo was unharmed, a Customs and Border Protection officer sustained an injury.
