Wife Convicted for Husband's Brutal 2022 Murder

In Gurgaon, a city court has convicted Anita Pathak, aged 47, for the 2022 murder of her husband, Raghavendra Pathak, 50. The prosecution successfully argued that strong circumstantial and forensic evidence proved her guilt, even as key witnesses, including the couple's children, turned hostile during the trial. Raghavendra was found dead at home on July 8, 2022, with initial reports of an accidental fall later disproven by evidence of a violent assault.

The fatal incident reportedly involved Anita striking Raghavendra with a helmet, continuing with a cricket bat when the helmet broke. Crucial evidence recovered from their home, such as a broken helmet, a cricket bat, and blood-stained items, was directly linked to the assault through forensic analysis. Anita's behavior after her husband's death, including attempts to rush the funeral and an inability to provide a coherent explanation, also raised suspicion.

Her motive was suggested to be linked to domestic disputes, exacerbated by Raghavendra's unemployment and alcohol consumption. Despite defense arguments highlighting the lack of eyewitnesses and hostile witnesses, the court found no doubt about Anita's involvement, noting the absence of forced entry and her presence at the residence on the night of the incident. Anita, who was out on bail, was taken into custody following the verdict.
