Wife Charged with Murder After Husband Dies from Assault

A Salisbury woman, Yorleni Shoff, 58, has been charged with first-degree murder following the death of her 93-year-old husband, Richard Shoff. He succumbed to severe head injuries sustained in an assault on April 9 within their home. Responding deputies discovered signs of a significant struggle and recovered a broken vase, believed to be the instrument of the attack.
Initially, Yorleni Shoff was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury, and domestic violence. She was released on a $500,000 bond on April 17. However, the following day, detectives were informed of Richard Shoff's death at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
An arrest warrant for murder was secured on April 21. Investigators apprehended Shoff without incident at a Salisbury hotel. She is presently detained at the Rowan County Detention Center without bond and is scheduled for her initial court appearance on April 22.
