Late on the night of July 20, a high-speed chase unfolded in Grand Rapids and Wisconsin Rapids, culminating in the arrest of a 47-year-old Wisconsin Rapids man.
The incident began when a Grand Rapids officer attempted to stop a pickup truck, but the driver accelerated and fled. The chase extended into Wisconsin Rapids, with local police and the Wood County Sheriff's Office joining the pursuit.
At one point during the chase, a woman attempted to exit the pickup with a dog, but the driver sped off with her leg momentarily trapped. She was eventually allowed to exit the vehicle safely.
Continuing at high speeds and driving on the wrong side of the road, the suspect's flight was ended when a Wood County deputy intentionally struck the fleeing pickup with his squad car. The driver then exited the vehicle on foot but was quickly apprehended by the deputy, who sustained minor injuries.
The man was arrested on suspicion of seventh-offense operating while intoxicated, fleeing an officer, and battery to an officer. He was also found to be driving with a revoked license.
