An incident at a Whataburger in Paris, Texas, saw employees use unconventional items to defend themselves and the establishment against an alleged attacker. Video footage captured the dramatic confrontation, showing workers employing a wire fry basket and a trash can to fend off a man dressed entirely in black.
The altercation began when the suspect reportedly attacked a Whataburger employee. Another worker intervened, striking the assailant with a fry basket, which caused him to fall. The manager then reportedly used a trash can to continue striking the suspect.
During the struggle, employees were heard urging someone to press the panic button. The suspect eventually fled the premises, and authorities were called. The Paris Police Department identified and arrested the suspect, identified as Anthony William Newhuis, 41, of Spring, Texas.
Newhuis was discovered in the parking lot with a head injury. He was subsequently charged with assault resulting in bodily injury and public intoxication. While in custody, he was also charged with criminal mischief for intentionally flooding jail cells. A Whataburger spokesperson stated that guest and employee security are top priorities and that the company is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
