Dean Whetzel, 82, died from injuries sustained after being shoved by his neighbor, Dana Escoffier, 79, during a sidewalk encounter on October 11.
The altercation, reportedly stemming from a disagreement about hallway paint, led to Whetzel falling and hitting his head. While Escoffier was initially charged with harassment and assault, Whetzel's subsequent death ruled as homicide has prompted prosecutors to re-evaluate the charges.
The two men had been neighbors for nearly fifty years, living in buildings managed by the same landlord. Despite their long history of seemingly amicable coexistence, the incident on Hudson Street brought their relationship to a fatal conclusion.
