Delhi Court Halts Murder Trial for Accused's Final Exam
10 Jul
Summary
- Aaftab Poonawala's final sociology exam caused a court hearing postponement.
- Shraddha Walkar's murder trial proceedings were rescheduled to July 21.
- Eight prosecution witnesses are still awaiting examination in the case.

A Delhi court canceled proceedings scheduled for July 20 in the Shraddha Walkar murder case. The postponement was granted because the accused, Aaftab Amin Poonawala, was set to take his final MA Sociology examination. This examination was held at an IGNOU center within Tihar Jail, where Poonawala is currently lodged.
The trial, which commenced in 2023, relates to the alleged murder of 27-year-old Shraddha Walkar by her live-in partner, Poonawala, in May 2022. The prosecution alleges that Poonawala strangled Walkar, dismembered her body, and disposed of the parts across Delhi over several days.
With the trial resuming on July 21, the court has directed the recording of prosecution evidence. As of now, eight witnesses have yet to be examined, while parts of the testimony from 13 prosecution witnesses have been recorded, and 12 others have had their testimonies deferred. Poonawala was apprehended in November 2022.
