Waitress's Secret Note Saves Abused Boy

In a remarkable display of courage, a waitress at Mrs. Potato, a family restaurant in Orlando, Florida, suspected child abuse and took decisive action. She noticed an 11-year-old boy exhibiting concerning signs, including a scratch and bruises, and appearing fearful. Recognizing the potential danger, the waitress covertly passed a note to the boy asking if he needed help. After an initial denial, the boy eventually confirmed his need for assistance.

This intervention prompted the waitress to contact the restaurant owner and subsequently the police. Authorities arrested the boy's stepfather, Timothy Lee Wilson, and his mother, Kristen Swann. Detectives discovered the boy was significantly underweight and covered in bruises, having been subjected to severe abuse, including being beaten with a broomstick and restrained. Wilson received a life sentence in 2022 for third-degree child abuse, and Swann was convicted of child neglect. A younger sister was also removed from the family.

Officials praised the waitress's quick thinking, stating her actions likely prevented a homicide and saved the children's lives.
