Summary

  • A financier was arrested for blackmailing victims with personal data.
  • The arrested man's wife, an advocate, was previously detained for similar charges.
  • The gang allegedly promised to resolve criminal cases for a hefty sum.

Cybercrime police in Visakhapatnam have apprehended Sugguna Shivannarayana, a 50-year-old financier, for his alleged involvement in a criminal syndicate. This group is accused of misusing victims' personal photos, videos, and audio recordings to extort money and defame them through digital platforms. Shivannarayana's wife, an advocate named Chandana Geetha Prasanna, was previously arrested on September 18, 2026, for similar offenses and has been remanded.

Investigators revealed that Shivannarayana, his wife, and associates formed a gang that preyed on individuals by threatening to publicize sensitive material. They also reportedly coerced victims into making favorable videos. In one instance, Shivannarayana allegedly convinced a victim, Polamarasetti Ratan Raju, that he could resolve existing criminal cases for ₹30 lakh. When the victim lacked immediate funds, Shivannarayana attempted to transfer ownership of six flats to his name.

The police confirmed Shivannarayana's active participation in the asset transfer scheme. He has a history of involvement in two previous cases, which are currently pending in court. The cybercrime police are continuing their investigation to apprehend the remaining gang members and initiate further legal actions.
