In Vijayawada, the Women's Sessions Court has delivered a life sentence to two individuals for the murder and subsequent theft of gold ornaments from an 82-year-old woman in 2022. The victim, Kumba Baby alias Bebamma, resided alone near Nizam Gate. The convicted, Gajjala Siva and Vandana Kanaka Mahalakshmi alias Divya, were found guilty of murder and theft.
The elderly woman was found deceased on the night of June 29, 2022, with her gold ornaments missing. Investigations revealed that the accused, who lived opposite the victim, had befriended her and identified her as a target due to her solitary living situation and visible jewelry.
Motivated by a desire to clear debts and cover personal expenses, the duo allegedly planned and executed the murder. They entered the victim's house, suffocated her, and fled with her valuables, bringing a tragic end to her life and leading to their conviction.
