York Regional Police are appealing to the public for assistance in locating the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run in Vaughan on Sunday evening. The incident resulted in the death of a 60-year-old woman from Richmond Hill.
The victim had reportedly just disembarked from a bus and was walking northbound on Pine Valley Drive, north of Major Mackenzie Drive, at approximately 8:30 p.m. when she was struck by a northbound vehicle. Police discovered her unresponsive on Tuesday afternoon after a passerby found a suitcase and the woman in the nearby grass.
Authorities are strongly encouraging the driver to surrender, stating that fleeing the scene makes them criminally liable. Police also cautioned that anyone assisting in concealing or repairing the vehicle to evade detection could face charges. Investigators are seeking dashcam footage from the area between 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.
