Two individuals are in custody following a chaotic disturbance Saturday night at the Hawthorne Suites Hotel in Vandalia. Police were initially dispatched to the location around 11 p.m. on January 3rd due to reports of disorderly conduct. The situation rapidly escalated when a woman, asked to leave after an argument, began fighting with another guest and then a responding officer.
When officers attempted to arrest the woman, a man reportedly joined the fray, allegedly attacking an officer as well. The escalating conflict drew a large crowd of onlookers, prompting responding officers to issue a "Signal 99," a county-wide call for backup.
Residents nearby described hearing a prolonged and intense argument, with one neighbor expressing profound shock that no one sustained serious injuries given the severity of the situation. Both individuals are now being held in the Montgomery County Jail.
