Tragedy struck near Capitol Reef National Park when Linda Dewey, 65, and her niece Natalie Graves, 34, were fatally shot while hiking. The alleged perpetrator, 22-year-old Ivan Miller, was apprehended in Colorado the following day, reportedly confessing to the murders.
Investigators revealed Miller’s alleged motive was to steal the women’s vehicles and cash. The discovery of Dewey and Graves led authorities to another victim, 86-year-old Margaret Oldroyd, found dead in her home in Lyman. Court documents indicate Miller shot Oldroyd and stole her car, though he later discarded it.
Miller has been charged with three counts of aggravated murder. The family of Dewey and Graves expressed their profound grief, calling the loss devastating and incomprehensible. They remembered Dewey as the "heart of our family" and Graves as "joy, sunshine and beauty embodied."
