USA Swimming CFO Arrested for Embezzlement
11 Aug
Summary
- USA Swimming CFO Cory Hilliard was arrested on embezzlement charges.
- He allegedly stole nearly $10,000 from the University of Colorado's athletics program.
- This marks USA Swimming's second hiring scandal in recent years.

USA Swimming's Chief Financial Officer, Cory Hilliard, has been placed on leave after his arrest on felony charges including theft and embezzlement. These allegations relate to his previous role as administrator for the University of Colorado's Nike Elite program. Investigators claim Hilliard embezzled $9,510.50 for personal use between 2021 and 2025.
The University of Colorado's athletics department uncovered the financial irregularities through an internal audit conducted in 2025. Following the arrest announcement, USA Swimming confirmed Hilliard's immediate leave and termination of his access to company data and financial controls while an internal investigation is underway. This marks the second significant hiring issue for USA Swimming within the past two years.
Last year, the organization faced controversy when CEO Chrissi Rawak withdrew after failing to disclose a report concerning her. Kevin Ring eventually took over as CEO in September 2025. USA Swimming has not yet named a replacement for Hilliard.
