A gruesome double murder and alleged act of cannibalism has shocked Parsa village in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district. Sikandar Gupta, a 30-year-old labourer, is accused of murdering his wife, Priyanka (28), and his mother, Runa Devi (60), on the rooftop of his house. Villagers reported hearing screams and rushed to the scene, only to witness Gupta allegedly consuming flesh torn from the victims' skulls.
Gupta, who had reportedly returned to his village a month ago after working in Mumbai, was apprehended by the police shortly after the incident. Eyewitnesses described how he began hurling pieces of flesh at the gathered crowd, causing widespread panic. Police have registered a case of double murder and are currently evaluating the accused's mental state, noting his agitated demeanor.
Criminologists suggest such extreme acts can stem from severe psychopathology, psychological trauma, or neurological issues, often related to a desire for ultimate control and dehumanization. Clinical psychologists suspect psychosis, a severe mental disorder characterized by delusions and potential hallucinations, may be a factor, given the accused's profound agitation and unwillingness to communicate.
