The murder of 58-year-old cabbie John Armstrong remains unsolved 47 years after his disappearance. On October 5, 1979, Armstrong radioed in to confirm he had picked up a fare, a transmission that proved to be his last. His taxi was later found abandoned and blood-stained on Treoes Lane, near Bridgend's Waterton industrial estate.

Three days after his taxi was discovered, Armstrong's body was found approximately 11 miles away on Cowbridge Common. Despite extensive investigations and hundreds of statements taken by detectives at the time, the identity of his killer was never determined.

As of January 2026, police are actively reviewing the cold case, which has seen previous appeals for information in 2003 and 2020. Authorities are once again urging the public to come forward with any new details that might help solve the 47-year-old mystery.
