Nearly seven months have passed since Cassie Reid, a 23-year-old mother of four, was fatally struck by a vehicle on the Louisbourg Highway. Cape Breton Regional Police responded to the scene on the morning of March 18th, finding a woman's body near the roadway, believed to have been hit the previous night. The investigation remains active with the Traffic Safety Unit, and authorities are still seeking a 2024 or 2025 Buick Encore Avenir. Reid's cousin, Jessica Biron, described her as a sister and a confidante, deeply affected by the loss.
Biron shared that Reid was on her usual two-hour walk home from her father's place when the collision occurred. The discovery of a shoe at the scene was a devastating confirmation of her death for Biron. The family has received no new information for months and Biron decided to speak publicly to appeal for witnesses and to keep her cousin's memory alive. A roadside memorial now stands near where Reid was struck. The family continues to cope with the daily pain of her absence, holding onto hope that an arrest will eventually bring them closure.
