1 Nov
Summary
- Unqualified individual worked 10 nursing shifts at a mental health hospital.
- He administered medication and left a cabinet unlocked, risking patient safety.
- The individual expressed deep regret but was deemed dishonest by the NMC.
An individual who worked 10 shifts as a registered nurse at Prospect Park Hospital, despite lacking the necessary qualifications, has been removed from the nursing register. Nana Kwasi Asabre worked the shifts in June and July 2022. During one shift, he was found to have administered medication to a patient without a nurse present and later left a medication cabinet unlocked.
Asabre, who was employed by the Your World healthcare agency, expressed deep regret for his actions. However, the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) concluded that he had been dishonest, knowing he was unqualified for the roles but accepting them anyway. The NMC noted his attempts to blame the agency and highlighted the significant risk his conduct posed to patients.
He had previously worked as a healthcare assistant for Oxford Health NHS Trust between September 2021 and July 2022. While qualified as a nursing associate, the shifts he undertook required a registered nurse qualification. The agency involved has been contacted for comment.
