Law Firm Owner Banned for Client Fund Theft
15 Sep
Summary
- Former law firm owner banned from financial services.
- Over £28 million withdrawn from client accounts without authorization.
- Regulator cites dishonest actions for the ban and financial system confidence.
The British financial regulator has banned Nurul Miah, the former owner of Kingsley Solicitors Limited, from working in financial services. Miah was found to have dishonestly caused or allowed more than £28 million to be withdrawn from client accounts without authorization.
This misconduct occurred between April 2019 and July 2020. The Solicitors Regulation Authority previously determined that £10 million of client money was missing and had been used by Miah for his personal benefit. The Financial Conduct Authority emphasized that the ban is crucial for consumer protection and maintaining confidence in the financial system.
Last year, the Solicitors Regulation Authority imposed its largest-ever fine of nearly £4 million for these breaches. Reuters was unable to immediately contact Miah for comment, and Kingsley Solicitors Limited did not respond to a request for remarks.
