New research indicates that the average age of children fatally stabbed in England is 14, with a significant majority of victims being male. Children residing in the most deprived areas face a seven-fold increased risk of succumbing to knife violence compared to those in affluent regions.
The study, analyzing deaths between 2019 and 2024, found that Black children are disproportionately affected, being 13 times more likely to be victims of fatal stabbings than their White counterparts. A substantial number of these young victims, three-quarters, were already known to social services, and many had experienced domestic abuse.
