21 Aug
Summary
- Man received life sentence for stabbing flatmate in London.
- Killer had previously served 15 years for a similar murder in Romania.
- The recent offense was triggered by a trivial dispute over £5.

Eugeniu Neamtu, 59, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his flatmate, Gheorghe Trica, in Walthamstow, east London, on February 20, 2026. The killing bears a striking resemblance to a murder Neamtu committed in Romania in 2006.
In May 2007, Neamtu was jailed for 15 years in Romania for stabbing his housemate during a drunken argument. After his release, he came to the UK in September 2023, failing to declare his criminal past.
Sentencing at the Old Bailey, Judge Richard Marks KC stated that Neamtu's stabbing of Trica was triggered by the victim asking to be repaid £5. Neamtu received a minimum sentence of 27 years.
