Aiden Dombrowski, a 19-year-old University of Georgia student, has been charged with battery following an alleged assault on a runner at the Coweta Cup cross-country meet in Newnan. Witnesses reported that Dombrowski emerged from the woods wearing an East Coweta High School jersey and carrying rocks before confronting a competitor.
The altercation ensued, with the runner defending himself and leaving Dombrowski with a minor injury. Dombrowski, who previously attended Northgate High School and is from Newnan, later surrendered to police after changing his clothes. The East Coweta jersey was found in his vehicle.
Authorities have confirmed Dombrowski has no connection to East Coweta High School, despite wearing its jersey. He reportedly drove from Athens, slept in his car, and appeared at the event. While Dombrowski described the incident as a joke, witness accounts and police observations suggest a deliberate act.
The investigation into the motive behind the bizarre attack is ongoing. As of October 3, Dombrowski faces the battery charge, with further developments pending.
