28 Apr
Summary
- Three fraternities are under investigation for severe hazing incidents.
- Allegations include burns, alcohol poisoning, and forced substance consumption.
- Student hospitalizations have occurred due to hazing activities.

The University of Arizona is actively investigating three fraternities – Sigma Alpha Mu, Sigma Chi, and Phi Delta Theta – following numerous allegations of extreme hazing. These investigations have led to significant disciplinary actions against the organizations.
Sigma Alpha Mu and Sigma Chi have been placed on an interim loss of recognition, preventing them from using campus facilities. Allegations against Sigma Alpha Mu include new members experiencing burns, alcohol poisoning, and blackouts, resulting in hospitalizations. Sigma Chi is accused of providing alcohol and drugs, knowingly or unknowingly, to students at recent events, leading to several hospitalizations.
Phi Delta Theta has been placed on an activities suspension, only permitted to conduct business meetings. This fraternity faces accusations of subjecting new members to forced alcohol consumption, degradation, and humiliation between the fall 2025 and spring 2026 semesters. Meetings are scheduled this week for Sigma Alpha Mu and Sigma Chi to determine if their disciplinary actions will be permanent. Phi Delta Theta met with campus officials on April 15.
