Two men have been imprisoned for their involvement in a significant tyre theft operation. Dean Higgins, 35, and Connor Barnett, 21, both from Leeds, stole around 500 tyres valued at £40,000 from a stationary HGV in Warrington in December 2025.
The thieves loaded their stolen goods into another lorry and fled, initiating a perilous pursuit that spanned the M62 and M6 motorways. During the chase, the lorry driven by Higgins collided with a police vehicle, causing it to spin and hit the central reservation. Fortunately, the officer sustained only minor injuries.
Following the incident, Higgins and Barnett attempted to escape on foot but were apprehended near Bradford. They later pleaded guilty to charges including theft, driving whilst disqualified, and dangerous driving at Liverpool Crown Court on March 6. Higgins received a 27-month sentence, while Barnett was jailed for 14 months.
