On Monday, March 2, police in Cleveland discovered the bodies of two unidentified Black girls. The victims were found concealed within suitcases in a park, located near East 162nd Street and Midland Avenue.
A local resident initially alerted authorities after encountering what appeared to be a body inside a suitcase while walking his dog. Responding officers located one deceased juvenile in a shallow grave within a suitcase.
Further investigation at the scene revealed a second, similar shallow grave containing another suitcase with a body inside. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office has taken custody of both victims for further investigation.
Authorities estimate one girl's age between 8 1/2 and 13, and the other between 10 1/2 and 14. Police stated the bodies were not dismembered but indicated no clear cause of death or how long they had been at the location. There are no current suspects or links to missing person cases.
Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy Todd described the incident as a priority and a traumatic event for the community, urging public assistance. A 24-hour tip line has been established, and police do not believe there is an immediate threat to public safety.
