Bangur Nagar Police apprehended TV actress Masumi Mevawala, known for 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi,' along with her father and brother, for allegedly orchestrating an investment fraud amounting to Rs 1.17 crore. The trio specifically targeted elderly women, promising lucrative daily returns from a purported private food business.
The scam, which began in 2022, involved the complainant being introduced to the family by her jailed husband. Initially, small daily payments of Rs 2,000 were made to build confidence, leading the victim to invest a total of Rs 1.17 crore before the accused absconded.
Investigators utilized technical surveillance and human intelligence to track the family to their Lower Parel residence. They have been charged under relevant financial establishment protection acts and provisions for cheating and forgery, with authorities now working to trace the stolen funds amid multiple ongoing cases.
