Julissa Turpin, one of the Turpin siblings rescued from severe abuse, recently achieved a significant personal milestone by completing a half marathon. At 19 years old, she shared her accomplishment, reflecting on how far she has come from a time when walking was difficult.
The Turpin siblings, numbering 13 in total, suffered abuse from their parents, David and Louise Turpin, in their Perris, California home. They were subjected to beatings, starvation, and confinement in cages or chains. The children's ordeal continued even after their rescue in early 2018 when six of the younger siblings experienced further abuse in foster care.
Parents David and Louise Turpin were convicted for their crimes and sentenced to 25 years to life. The siblings who were placed in foster care endured abuse from their foster parents, Marcelino and Rosa Olguin, and their daughter, Lennys Olguin. These foster parents later pleaded guilty to child abuse charges.
An attorney for some of the siblings described their experience in foster care as "worse" than their upbringing, highlighting the psychological damage inflicted upon them. Despite their traumatic past, Julissa and other siblings have publicly shared their stories, seeking positive outcomes from their suffering and advocating for healing.
