The nearly 30-year mystery surrounding Tupac Shakur's 1996 killing is heading to trial. Duane 'Keffe D' Davis, a former gang leader, is set to face a murder charge in Las Vegas, beginning Monday, August 10, 2026. Prosecutors accuse Davis of organizing the drive-by attack and supplying the weapon, though not firing the fatal shots.

Davis's own public accounts, including a 2019 memoir, played a crucial role in reviving the long-dormant investigation. Authorities stated these statements provided new leads, leading to his arrest in September 2023. The legal proceedings aim to move the case from speculation into courtroom evidence.

Shakur was shot in a drive-by attack on September 7, 1996, after a confrontation earlier that night involving his entourage and Davis's nephew, Orlando Anderson. The incident became entangled with the East Coast-West Coast hip-hop rivalry, fueling decades of speculation.
