Trump's Son Witnesses Assault Via Video Call, Leads to Conviction
28 Jan
Summary
- Donald Trump's son testified after seeing a woman beaten on video.
- Rumiantsev was convicted of assault and perverting justice.
- The witness called UK police from the US shortly after the incident.

A Russian national, Matvei Rumiantsev, has been convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in London following a report by Donald Trump's son. The younger Trump contacted UK police in January 2025, stating he had witnessed a woman being beaten during a video call. Prosecutors indicated Rumiantsev's jealousy of the woman's friendship with Trump fueled the attack.
Rumiantsev, aged 22, was also found guilty of perverting the course of justice, relating to a letter he sent from prison asking the victim to withdraw her allegations. He was, however, acquitted of charges including rape and intentional strangulation.
The trial heard that Trump, 19, made the call to officers from the US. He described a brief video call showing the victim being hit while crying. The judge cautioned the jury not to rely solely on Trump's account as he did not provide evidence under oath. The assault took place on January 18, 2025.
