Summary
- Jillian Lauren, true-crime author, avoids jail time
- Arrested in connection with bizarre standoff with LAPD in April
- Must avoid drugs, alcohol, and firearms as part of diversion agreement

In a recent development, Jillian Lauren, a bestselling true-crime author and the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, has avoided jail time after being arrested in connection with a bizarre standoff with the Los Angeles Police Department in April of this year.
On Thursday, a Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge granted Lauren, 52, a mental health diversion that was petitioned by the defense. Under the terms of the agreement, Lauren must avoid the use of drugs and alcohol, attend therapy, and not own firearms for the next two years. If she successfully completes the conditions of the diversion, the case will be dismissed by the court.
The incident occurred five months ago when three suspects in a misdemeanor hit-and-run allegedly fled the scene of a traffic accident on the 134 Freeway and escaped into a residential area in the neighborhood of Eagle Rock. Lauren was later determined to have no connection to the hit-and-run. However, police said that a nearby homeowner, later identified as Lauren, walked out of her house with a handgun, leading to an officer-involved shooting. Lauren was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a peace officer, but prosecutors eventually charged her with assault and negligent discharge of a firearm.
