A sessions court in Mumbai has convicted a 33-year-old truck driver, Noor Shah, for the 2023 murder of a Bhiwandi businessman and the attempted murder of a toll plaza employee. The judge sentenced Shah to life imprisonment, citing clear CCTV evidence of the intentional act. The incident occurred on May 11, 2023, when Shah's truck allegedly scratched a car driven by the victim's nephew. An argument ensued at the Mulund toll plaza, during which Shah, despite seeing the victim in front of his truck, accelerated and ran him over.
The court relied heavily on CCTV footage which, though not showing the driver's face, clearly displayed the truck's registration number. Eyewitness testimonies from toll plaza employees corroborated the footage and identified Shah as the driver. The defense's claims of a blurred and unreliable CCTV feed were dismissed. The judge noted that Shah knew his actions could cause death and ruled that the prosecution had proven their case beyond reasonable doubt.
