Doctor's Testimony Contradicts Suicide Defense
21 Oct
Summary
- Doctor testified Birchmore showed no signs of distress.
- Federal investigators also doubt suicide claim.
- Trial focuses on alleged grooming and murder cover-up.

Dr. Priyanka Venkataraman, Sandra Birchmore's OB-GYN, testified that Birchmore was in good spirits during her final weeks, showing no indications of distress. Birchmore's doctor stated that the pregnancy was progressing well and that she had recently been reassured about the baby's viability.
Federal investigators do not believe Birchmore died by suicide. Matthew Farwell, the baby's alleged father, is on trial, accused of murdering Birchmore and her unborn child to conceal evidence of past misconduct, including grooming and lying about work hours. Farwell has pleaded not guilty, with his defense arguing Birchmore took her own life due to their breakup and pregnancy fears.
FBI Special Agent Heidi Kelsch presented text messages between Birchmore and Farwell discussing their relationship, her threats to expose it, and sexual encounters that began when Birchmore was underage. The trial, which is expected to last over a month, has included emotional and graphic testimony.
