Trey Songz Avoids Jail in NYC Assault Case

R&B artist Trey Songz, legally known as Tremaine Aldon Neverson, has received a one-year conditional discharge, bypassing jail time for an alleged assault. This sentence resolves charges from two separate incidents that occurred in New York City last year.

Neverson was initially charged with misdemeanor attempted assault and harassment for allegedly striking a nightclub employee on December 4th. He also faced a felony charge for second-degree mischief related to an unrelated disturbance at a Manhattan restaurant, where property damage estimated at $1,500 occurred.

Following his arrest, Neverson underwent mental health treatment and adhered to court mandates. As a result, prosecutors allowed him to withdraw his misdemeanor plea, convicting him instead of a non-criminal violation of harassment. The felony mischief charge was later dismissed.

Under the terms of the conditional discharge, Neverson will avoid incarceration and probation provided he remains complaint with the sentence for the next 365 days. His legal team stated that he was provoked in the restaurant incident, with security intervening.
