Naked Man Terrorizes Hotel Guest
3 Apr
Summary
- Guest trapped for an hour by naked man.
- Staff asked for replacement key to victim's room.
- Hotel changed key policy after assault.

A woman has recounted her terrifying experience of being trapped in her Travelodge hotel room for an hour in July 2025, as a naked man engaged in sex acts outside her door. The marketing consultant, Wendy Griffith, described her rising panic and failed attempts to contact hotel staff during the incident at the London Stratford branch.
Her ordeal intensified upon learning that the man had previously asked reception for a replacement key to her room, a request only denied because he was a known guest. This account follows a 2022 security breach at a Travelodge in Maidenhead, where a guest was sexually assaulted after an unauthorized person was given access to her room. The perpetrator in Ms. Griffith's case, Trevor Reece, pleaded guilty to outraging public decency in September 2025 and received a sentence involving alcohol dependency treatment.
Following these events, Travelodge has implemented changes to its room key policy. CEO Jo Boydell issued an apology for past failings, stating that new or replacement keys will now only be provided with explicit guest consent. The hotel chain has also introduced training to ensure hotel phone numbers are visible on key card wallets for easier guest access to staff. These measures aim to prevent future security lapses and ensure guest safety.
