Tragic Suicide by Chainsaw Shocks French Shopping Center

On November 12, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded in the town of Gap, France, when a woman in her 60s used an electric chainsaw to end her own life in the parking lot of a DIY store. Eyewitnesses reported that the woman carried out the horrific act around 4 pm, in full view of shoppers. Despite the immediate response of firefighters, police, and an ambulance crew, the woman could not be saved.

The shocking suicide comes just two months after another tragic loss in the region. In September, a 42-year-old lesbian school principal named Caroline Grandjean took her own life by jumping off a cliff on the first day of the school term. Grandjean had been subjected to a campaign of homophobic abuse and death threats at the small nursery school where she taught.

Sadly, this is not the only recent case of a young life lost to suicide in France. Last month, a 9-year-old girl named Sara took her own life after being bullied at school over her weight. The authorities have opened investigations into all three incidents to determine the exact causes and circumstances.
