Summary

  • Class 7 student found dead at Sainik School in Arunachal Pradesh
  • Sister alleges he was tortured and bullied by seniors the night before
  • School initially claimed he died by suicide, but family learned of alleged ragging and abuse

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a 12-year-old student at the Sainik School in Arunachal Pradesh's East Siang district has tragically passed away. The victim's sister, Tadu Lunia, who is the reigning Miss Arunachal 2024, has come forward with a shocking allegation.

Lunia claims that her brother, Haro, was subjected to torture and bullying by senior students the night before his death. According to her, the school authorities had initially informed the family that Haro died by suicide. However, after speaking to his classmates and dormitory mates, the family learned of the alleged ragging and physical abuse.

Lunia's account paints a disturbing picture. She states that on October 31st, eight students from Class 10 and three from Class 8 reportedly entered the Class 7 dormitory at night, when no warden was present. The seniors allegedly forced all students to cover themselves with blankets, except for Haro, and then took him away to the Class 10 dormitory. Eyewitnesses have told the family that Haro was not allowed to sleep and was mentally and physically tortured for hours.

The tragic incident has left the family and the community in a state of shock and grief. Lunia has urged the public to stand with the family in their fight for justice, saying, "I lost my brother today - it could be anyone's tomorrow if we don't take the right steps now."

The police have registered a case on the charges of abetment to suicide, and eight students, all minors, have been apprehended and produced before the Juvenile Justice Board in Pasighat. The investigation is still ongoing, and further evidence is being collected.
