On November 15, 2025, a tragic mass shooting occurred in Newark, New Jersey, leaving two people dead and three others injured. According to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, the incident took place around 7:00 p.m. local time on the 300 block of Chancellor Avenue.
A 10-year-old boy and a 21-year-old woman were pronounced dead at the nearby University Hospital after the shooting. Three other victims, an 11-year-old boy, a 19-year-old man, and a 60-year-old man, were also injured but are reported to be in stable condition.
Newark Mayor Ras Baraka called the incident "a dark and devastating day in Newark," and vowed that the city would work tirelessly with law enforcement to ensure justice is served. He urged the killer to turn themselves in, stating that "there is no safe place to hide."
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, and the Essex County Sheriff's Office is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
