In T'puram, Vilappilsala police apprehended Ratheesh Kumar, 42, for the alleged murder of his wife, Vidya Chandran, 26. The fatal incident transpired at their Peyad residence on Sunday night, stemming from a verbal altercation. Police were alerted by a friend of the accused after he informed them of Vidya's death, suspecting foul play.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the dispute escalated into physical violence. Ratheesh and Vidya, both on their second marriages, reportedly experienced frequent quarrels, exacerbated by Ratheesh's alcohol dependency. Vidya had previously left the home due to disputes but returned two days before the incident.
Ratheesh Kumar faces multiple past assault charges, raising concerns about his propensity for violence. He has been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days as the police continue their investigation into the matter. An autopsy is pending for the victim.
