Toddler's Sudden Death Under Investigation
9 Apr
Summary
- A toddler died in hospital after being found unresponsive at home.
- The cause of the boy's sudden death was unascertained, requiring an inquest.
- An inquest is scheduled to resume on July 23 to examine the circumstances.

A toddler from Carlisle, James Alexander Edward Duncan, has died, leading to an official inquest into the circumstances. The two-year-old was found unresponsive at his home and later pronounced dead at the Cumberland Infirmary in July, shortly after his second birthday.
Senior Coroner for Cumbria, Kirsty Gomersal, opened the inquest at Workington Coroners Court. A paediatric post-mortem examination determined the cause of the boy's sudden death to be unascertained. This has necessitated a full inquest to explore the details surrounding his passing.
The inquest is scheduled to resume on July 23. The coroner has requested statements from the police officer who attended the home on the day of the death, as well as from the paramedics and the clinician who attended the toddler and pronounced him dead at the hospital.
