A Pennsylvania father, Joshua Kitner, 29, was arrested on May 6, 2026, and charged with felony aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children. On January 25, 2026, state police responded to a home in North Newton Township where a 2-year-old girl was found suffering from hypothermia and severe frostbite. The child had been left outside during a winter storm, wearing only a T-shirt and diaper.
Authorities allege Kitner was solely responsible for the child when he fell asleep after drinking eight or nine beers the previous night. He stated he woke to find his daughter outside with the family dog, her feet "frozen and purple, almost black." The child sustained stage-four frostbite on both feet and stage-three on her right hand's fingers. She received extensive hospital treatment, including a week in a burn unit.
Kitner was released on $20,000 unsecured bail and is scheduled for a court appearance on May 21, 2026. Information regarding legal representation was not immediately available.
