Mystery Informant Stalls Nancy Guthrie Case
18 Feb
Summary
- TMZ will not reveal if new notes from informant have been received.
- Informant claims to know kidnapper's identity but fears legal repercussions.
- FBI remains highly interested in ransom and demand notes.

TMZ has decided to stop publicly disclosing whether it has received further notes from an individual claiming to possess information regarding Nancy Guthrie's suspected abduction. This decision was announced by TMZ founder Harvey Levin.
The anonymous source has previously sent four notes, each demanding one bitcoin, approximately $68,000, and purporting to know the identity of Nancy's alleged abductor. The latest communication was received on Monday, February 16. Levin explained that by not confirming receipt of new notes, the publication avoids signaling to the abductor which days specific information was provided.
Levin stated that the informant can still provide information, which TMZ will forward to the FBI. This ensures a record of the informant's cooperation. The individual has reportedly withheld their public identity due to a past burglary charge. TMZ publicly urged the informant to share details, assuring them that the FBI is aware of this overture and that cooperation could lead to a public record of their role in finding Nancy.
During an interview on February 17, Levin confirmed ongoing communication with the FBI concerning the investigation into Nancy's disappearance, now in its third week. The FBI has expressed significant interest in both the anonymous notes and unverified ransom notes demanding millions, which were received by TMZ and local Tucson outlets shortly after Nancy's February 1 disappearance. The authenticity of these ransom notes remains unverified by law enforcement.
Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today show cohost Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her home near Tucson, Arizona, on the evening of January 31. She was reported missing after failing to attend a virtual church service the following day.
