In a swift operation, Tirunelveli district police successfully rescued a minor girl within two hours of her abduction near Vijaynarayanam on Sunday. The incident occurred during a local temple festival where the girl's family was operating a giant wheel. She was allegedly taken by two men on a two-wheeler around 11:45 am.
Following the abduction, the superintendent of police ordered a district-wide alert, directing officers to enhance vehicle checks and monitor all entry and exit points. The police intercepted a suspicious vehicle at the Gangaikondan checkpost around 2:00 pm, leading to the girl's safe recovery.
Preliminary inquiries suggest the abduction was rooted in a family dispute. The girl was reportedly taken by her maternal uncle from the custody of her aunt, who had been caring for her. Vijayanarayanam police have registered a case and detained the uncle, with ongoing investigations to clarify the circumstances. The child is to be presented before the Child Welfare Committee for a decision on her custody.
