Timmins Police Probe Violence-Linked Drug Trafficking
3 Oct
Summary
- Police conduct six drug warrants amid rising community violence.
- Paramedics see sharp increase in suspected opioid poisonings.
- Tranquilizers may be contaminating the unregulated drug supply.
Timmins police have conducted six drug-related search warrants in the last three weeks as part of an initiative to curb drug trafficking associated with recent violence, including homicides and shootings. This proactive approach aims to stabilize the situation in the community.
Simultaneously, the Cochrane District Services Board's Paramedic Service has observed a dramatic increase in suspected opioid poisonings. Paramedics responded to over 20 overdoses within a recent three-day period, thankfully with no fatalities reported so far.
Paramedics are also noting signs that tranquilizers may be contaminating the unregulated drug supply. This is evidenced by patients remaining unresponsive or heavily impaired even after receiving naloxone. The mobile outreach program, REACH, continues its work connecting with vulnerable individuals.
