A tragic random knife attack in New York City's Times Square on Monday afternoon resulted in the death of Erin Piacenti, a 32-year-old woman from Morris County, New Jersey. Piacenti, a vice president at Bank of America, was stabbed in the abdomen and later died at an area hospital.
The assailant, 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros of Queens, New York, was fatally shot by police officers at the scene. Cisneros had first attacked a 68-year-old man as he exited a subway station, stabbing him in the abdomen. He is currently in stable condition.
Following the assaults, officers attempted to de-escalate the situation with Cisneros, who was armed with two knives. After she refused to comply and advanced on the officers, they discharged their firearms. Cisneros had a documented mental health history with the NYPD. Piacenti was a graduate of Villa Walsh Academy, the University of Pennsylvania, and Fordham University Law.
