On November 6, 2025, a daring theft occurred at a lavish wedding in Chandigarh, India. Two unknown individuals, dressed as wedding guests, managed to steal a bride's purse containing over $20,000 worth of gold jewelry during the ceremony.
The incident took place around 12:30 AM at a five-star hotel in Sector 35, where the high-profile wedding was being held. The bride's cousin, Dr. Nikhil Sethi, reported that the purse, which belonged to the bride's parents, was left unattended for a few moments as they went to greet relatives. In that brief window, the thieves struck, taking the purse full of valuables.
The stolen items included a 9-tola gold necklace, two 4-tola gold bangles, gold earrings, a ring, and some cash. The bride was planning to wear the jewelry during the wedding rituals. Security camera footage later showed one of the accused walking out of the hotel, talking on the phone, while his accomplice followed shortly after, the stolen purse hidden under his coat.
The theft caused chaos and disruption to the wedding celebrations. The bride's family sought help from the hotel staff, but they allegedly delayed taking concrete action. It was only when the police were called that an investigation was launched. The authorities have seized the CCTV footage and registered a case against the two unknown perpetrators.
