A sessions court in Thane has delivered a life sentence to two individuals for the brutal murder of an 84-year-old man and his caretaker. This conviction concludes a trial that spanned nearly ten years, bringing closure to the case that occurred in 2016.
The victims, Sitaram Vallabh Shroff and his caretaker Santosh Raisingh Lavangare, were discovered deceased in their Thane apartment. Both had sustained numerous stab and incised injuries, indicating a violent assault.
Prashant Sadashiv Pawar, identified as a former caretaker of Shroff, and Atendra were found guilty of murder. They were sentenced to life imprisonment and each fined Rs 1 lakh. The court also imposed additional rigorous imprisonment for associated charges of robbery and house trespass.
While no eyewitnesses were present, the prosecution successfully presented a complete chain of circumstantial evidence. CCTV footage was crucial, capturing Pawar and Atendra entering the building where the crime occurred, thereby establishing their definitive involvement.
