Summary
- Man charged in connection with 1986 deaths of two young women.
- Suspect James Elmore arrested for role in victims' deaths.
- Victims' families express relief mixed with frustration over delay.

Prosecutors have charged James Dolphs Elmore Jr., 61, in connection with the 1986 deaths of 16-year-old Laura Miller and 30-year-old Audrey Cook. Their bodies were discovered in the "Texas Killing Fields," an area near Houston where over 30 women's bodies have been found since the 1970s. Elmore faces manslaughter and tampering with evidence charges in Miller's death, and evidence tampering in Cook's killing.
Galveston County District Attorney Kenneth Cusick announced the indictment, highlighting significant headway in a decades-long investigation. Prosecutors had also presented evidence against Clyde Hedrick, believed to be responsible for the deaths of four women and Elmore's friend. However, Hedrick died by suicide last month before a grand jury decision.
Relatives of the victims acknowledged the arrest as a relief but voiced frustration over the extensive time it took for charges to be filed. Tim Miller, father of Laura Miller, expressed disappointment that Hedrick died without facing indictment. The case remains a painful reminder of unsolved crimes in the area, though authorities are pursuing other leads.
