A 62-year-old engineer was fatally stabbed in what authorities describe as a random attack on a park bench in Williamson County, Texas. Andrew James Wimsatt was reportedly attacked minutes after sitting down in the park on September 7.
Surveillance video captured the shocking incident, showing a man identified as Benedict Chinedu Ogbodiegwu grabbing Wimsatt from behind and repeatedly stabbing him. Ogbodiegwu then allegedly wiped blood from his shirt and fled the scene.
Wimsatt, an engineer with a Ph.D., was known for his kindness and had connections with several Fox News personalities, including Greg Gutfeld and Kat Timpf, who remembered him fondly. He had also attended standup shows by Tyrus.
Ogbodiegwu, 26, was arrested and charged with murder and theft. He has a criminal history in Williamson County dating back to 2017, with prior arrests this year for theft and carrying fake identification. He had been released from county jail on June 9, prior to Wimsatt's murder.
Investigators believe they recovered bloody clothes and the suspected murder weapon. Ogbodiegwu is being held on a $1 million bond, with his next court date scheduled for October 8.
